About Homegrown...

Hi! I'm Kristi, the owner of Homegrown Feeding Therapy Services. I am an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist licensed to practice in New York State. I graduated with my Masters of Science in speech-language pathology in 2012 from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY. Since that time, I've worked in early intervention, preschool settings, public schools, and private practice. I specialize in treating young children ages birth to 5 and have dedicated my career to this population. I have advanced certifications in infant feeding, bottle feeding, and sensory-motor based feeding. I am also a Certified Lactation Counselor, and treat feeding and swallowing disorders from birth.

All services are provided in the comfort of your own home, as I truly believe that family involvement and learning in the child's natural environment is the key to success.

Why work with Kristi?

Although most assume feeding is natural, for many babies and toddlers it is quite difficult! Feeding is complicated and requires a comprehensive approach to determine why it is a struggle. Whether you are having breastfeeding difficulties, your baby is struggling with a bottle, transitioning to solids is not going well, or your child is a picky eater, an expert "whole child" assessment is needed. Kristi's intensive training and experience in all aspects of feeding will ensure your child gets started on the right track to success.

Many children, unfortunately, do not qualify for county Early Intervention services. This often means they were not determined to struggle "enough", but does not necessarily mean support is not needed. In addition, insurance puts significant limitations on how, when, and where your child can get services. Private, highly specialized therapy services can mean your child needs less therapy overall because they are getting the most effective care!

How to get started...

If you are interested in scheduling in-home therapy services for your child, complete the contact form below for a free consultation! If you are unsure whether or not your child would benefit from therapy services, this is the first step to take. The consultation can take place over the phone, or via email. During this time, we will discuss your child, his or her medical history and development, as well as your concerns regarding your child's speech, language, and/or feeding. After the consultation, you can decide if you would like to move forward with an evaluation. There is no obligation to schedule an evaluation or therapy sessions after a consultation.

Consultation or evaluation?

Evaluations typically last around an hour and begin with an in-depth parent interview and case history to learn as much as possible about your child. I will spend time observing your child, learning their strengths and interests, and building a relationship. A formal assessment will be completed based on the specific needs of your child. After the evaluation is completed, you will receive a complete written report, including therapy goals, within 5-7 business days.

Ongoing therapy...

Therapy generally takes place once a week in 30, 45, or 60-minute sessions. Research shows that children learn fastest when engaged in play and daily routines, therefor all therapy is play-based and child-led. Therapy sessions are provided in your home, or in your child's daycare or preschool setting. All therapy sessions include family involvement, research-based strategies, and are customized to the specific needs, interests, and strengths of your child. A naturalistic, "whole child" approach is used to ensure your child is able to make the most of their therapy sessions.
